What is Klonopin?

Klonopin (clonazepam) is a benzodiazepine. Clonazepam affects chemicals in the brain that can become unbalanced. Clonazepam is also an antiepileptic drug, also known as an antiepileptic drug.

Klonopin is used to treat certain seizure disorders (including absence seizures or Lennox-Gastaut syndrome) in adults and children.

Klonopin is also used to treat panic disorder (including agoraphobia) in adults.

Important information

You should not use Clonazepam/Klonopin 2 mg if you have angle-closure glaucoma or severe liver disease, or if you are allergic to Valium or any similar medicine.

Call your doctor if you have new or worsening depressive symptoms, unusual behaviour changes, or thoughts of suicide or self-harm.

Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine. Clonazepam can be addictive. Never share Klonopin with another person. Keep this medicine out of the reach of others.

Follow your doctor’s instructions for taking antiepileptic medication if you are pregnant. Do not start or stop taking this medicine without your doctor’s advice, and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Clonazepam/Klonopin 2 mg can harm an unborn baby and cause feeding or breathing problems in a newborn. But seizures during pregnancy can harm both mother and baby.

If you are pregnant, your name may be on the pregnancy registry. This is done to monitor the outcome of the pregnancy and to evaluate the effect of clonazepam/Klonopin 2 mg on the baby.

Clonazepam/Klonopin 2 mg can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.

Do not give this medicine to a child without a doctor’s advice. Klonopin is not approved for the treatment of panic disorder in people younger than 18 years of age.

The sedative effect of Klonopin may last longer in the elderly. Elderly patients taking benzodiazepines often experience accidental falls. Take care to avoid accidental falls or injuries while taking Klonopin.
